Alternator not charging properly
Truck not charging properly... took alternator off and checked it at work... alternator is good... to make it charge have to hold back on black box in the wiring harness that attaches to alternator... does anyone know what is in black box and how to wire since new wiring harnesses are not available...

The Black Box is only to hold the wires so you get them in the right place and there is nothing special inside, you can cut it off and connect your wires with good ring terminals.
The heavy BATTERY wire is a known heating element, the first thing that I did was to replace it using #4 welding cable and crimped on good copper lugs, one end goes to the big terminal on the alternator and the other end connects directly to the battery (+) through a 200-amp fuse.
The only other connections are to the voltage regulator and don't forget a good heavy ground.
