All frame Equal 1990 frame 1/2 Ton 3/4 ton ????
I have a chance to buy a 1/2 4x4 cab and was just wondering is the frame the same as the 3/4 ton

In a word, no.

As far as I have read the 90's did use the gasser frame. The frames for the 150 through 350 in the w series are the same as long as it is a p/u. The w350 cab and chassis is the only taller frame of that vintage. Now in 91.5 or 92 they did have different frames. I double checked my factory service manual for my 89 and thats what it says. The tallest frame in my book is the d350 with the 159 wheel base.

ehhh i dont know. my 91.0 SRW w350 has the tall frame. my friends 91.0 SRW w250 has the shorter one. his crossmember didnt have that step up and mine does. both of our trucks are identical besides the 3/4, 1-ton difference. i have a 90 w350 DRW C&C truck and it has the same frame as my truck

91 is the anything goes year. He said 90 so I left that out. I agree 91 had both taller and shorter. As I said my info is out of the 89 book. I have no newer books then that to read from.

Basically I found a good deal on a Cab which is sitting on a 1/2 4x4 frame. I want to do a frame off. it is a reg cab auto 4x4 which the auto doesn't matter cuz i have to cut new hole for the nv 4500 anyways. I was just wondering is the frame the same in that series . I thought it was but have my doubts . Will it handle the weight and torque of the cummins ?

The frames on the non i/c trucks were strong enough generally, and they tend to have more power available than the i/c rigs. I wouldn't hesitate for a DD, if it is for heavy hauling or serious offroading you may want to consider the taller frames, just my opinion of course.

Are you getting at splicing in a section of frame that the cab is attached to? Not an easy idea. swapping cab for cab will bolt up no prob regardless of frame height or guage. even if you were adding a club/crew to diesel frame you'd be ok as long as the frame already had that sort of cab. splicing in a piece of half ton frame isn't going to work. they're shorter in areas and lighter guage channel.

Sounds to me like you want to put the cummins in the half ton, correct? Axle strength needs to 4000 lbs+, for sure. That info is in the door jamb. As far as the frame, if it's a lighter gauge, regardless of height, I personally wouldn't chance it, especially if the engine isn't stock. But people do put them in ramchargers, which is 1/2 ton frame, so I may be wrong.
