Airfilter Box Modified
Well after reading all of the great information shared by you all. I modified my airbox today. I took a hole saw and cut out 20 - 1 1/2 inche holes in the airbox. Boy I can hear it suck air now. I can also hear the turbo better now. I haven't put it under a load yet, but just driving the truck around town it does sound better. It's nice being able to hear the tubro whistle. I posted some pictures of the modified airbox on page 17 in the members photo's if you would like to see what I did. Also below is the link which should take you straight to that page:

Re:Airfilter Box Modified
I removed the whole box, and made a little brace to keep the filter from riding on the fender. Seems to work great, and the turbo sure is loud. Anyone have any objection to doing this?

Re:Airfilter Box Modified
Its just hanging there...its a K&N, I dont know if that makes a difference. I never really have a problem with water up there. Could this be hurting something just leaving it hang like that?

GaCamper, The box looks like you really took your time and made it so it didn't look all chopped up. Can you tell any difference in how it runs other than the whistle of the turbo. I've been thinking of going thru the fender for the inlet, just in front of the passenger door with a "chrome scoop" to catch the air, this would eliminate the hot air from under the hood, but my main worry is water when it's raining. I've also thought about turning it facing backwards to keep out the rain, but I think this would produce a negative pressure, which may do more harm than good, but there again, I see some big rigs running with them up high and turned backwards.

RedWhite, I really don't think you're hurting anything. From pictures the Old Smokey mount appears to cover only the top of the filter. I guess that's why I drilled holes only in the front and bottom. I guess, like Paul S says, if there's fear of moister get the outerwear.

Re:Airfilter Box Modified
That was my main concern was not making it look all chopped up. After doing some figuring I found that a 1 1/2 hole saw would work the best. I guess I could of used a larger hole saw, but I didn't want to loose the integrity of the airbox. Anyway, The truck does seem to run better. It's seems to be more responsive & the MPG seems a little better also around town. I haven't travel far with it yet, so I can't tell you anything pertaining to highway MPG's

Thanks Pat,
In your profile I got a good laugh where you stated
"Just started goin' through my second childhood with this toy". that is what my wife is always telling me. I'm always tinkering with my 93. I may not be doing a whole lot to it, but I'm doing something. It's like having a "Grown Up Toy" And loving every minute of it.
