Air no Air whats up

A few years ago Wannadiesel helped me out by gettin my air-conditioning workin. The idea was the probe in the tube was to low. He told me to use it wide open all the time or it would freeze up. Ok that worked fine and really still does. Now when I put the air on max fan on high it will run cold as the devil for about a half hour then the fan will slowly shut down. I then put it on vent until the fan returns to full power then to max air and its fine for another half hour. What’s goin on and how do I get it to run all the time?

I can do this all day a half hour at a time but how can I get the fan to stay on??

thanks for the help

Is the fan actually stopping or just no airflow?

It sounds to me that your evaporator is icing up, when you turn it off it gives it a chance to thaw out then it will work again.

Make sure you have plenty of airflow the condenser and the evaporator.

An increase in the humidity will also cause this.

Ok this is what happens. I push the max air button with the fan on high. It gets cold and blows out the vents fine. Everything is as is should be. After about a half hour the flow of air begins to slow out of the vents then almost to nothing. There is a little comming out but not much. I then push the vent button and in a minute or so the flow of air out of the vents begins to get stronger to normal.

Ok what do I have to do here? Where do I start? I think what your sayin is the entire air conditioner can work normaly if I make some kind of repair. It sounds like I can use it on regular air with different fan speeds if I fix this thing. Where do I start?

thanks for the help

It's what Jim said, the evaporator is icing up. Don't run it on Max, just run it on normal A/C and it should be fine. Or push the probe down the tube a little.

Oh ok I moved it up as far as I could get it. OOps I also was runnin at full bore........oops again. I'll give it a try the other way. I must have misunderstood. I thought you said to run it wide open max air and full fan. To tell ya the truth it gets cold in there and that is sayin something for a 17 year old truck. LOL

thanks again

hate to jump in the middle here. my ac was changed over to the new coolant or whatever it actually is but the cooling is minimal. my ford was done by the same shop and it is as good as new. i don't know what probe or tube you are referring to and could something like that be my problem? thanks, tc.

you need to check the amount of freon in system.. in every rig I have built, if there is not enough freon then it will freeze up.. it will do exaclty what your are describing.. I would have it checked to make sure it is full..

also have them ad a die to the system when they fill it. if there are leaks the die will be able to be seen with a black light later on.. it can take a week or so for the die to work its way out if there is a leak.. if not leak then no die will show up .. and the die does not hurt anything.

any good A/C place will know what I am talking about.
