Air Filter element

Air Filter element
Hello Gang,
My MIL drives dad's 92 as here daily driver (it just went over 80k)
She gets it serviced regularly, and this time they told her it needed an air filter replacement but didn't have one in stock.
I tried 3 places before I found one, at NAPA, and it was not the right one.
The local dealer would have to order one out of Detroit and would take some time, and cost $57. They couldn't figure out why they weren't in thier system.
What are you guys doing for filter elements or replacement systems? I can't believe they need and filter that big, and they cost that much.
Thanks in advance.

I always liked the filters on the 1st gens. They seem to flow very well and they hold a lot of dirt. They don't need to be replaced all that often, and the dirt can be tapped out once or twice before the filter needs replaced. If it was mine, I would consider adapting a filter minder from a 2nd gen truck.

I can see how they hold alot of dirt.
The NAPA filter is supposed to be thier GOLD. It is recessed in the one end and made to be help in place with a rod and nut, like a compressor.
I taped it closed and it was just a bit to short to have worked in the housing.
Thanks for the help. Ill have them check thier PN and get one on line the next time.

I looked at Rockauto.
The one they show in WIX for the 92 looks like the one from NAPA that will not fit.
The one they show for FRAM on the '93 year model looks exzactly like the one i removed.....

The factory filters were different from 92 to 93. Same general shape, but the 89-92 was metal, and used a threaded rod with a wing nut to hold it in place. The 93 filter was rubber, and just used tension to hold it in place when you screwed the cover on. Not sure how the aftermarket dealt with the change between the years.
