AFC boost line mod/upgrade

Hey, all. This is kind of going to be a weird post, as I am relying on another member on here, Vader93, to post up my pics. I just emailed him I believe 9 pics, showing a beginning to end kind of deal.
First off, I am not going to say this is a must do mod, nor am I going to say this will make your truck run faster. All I can say is how it made my truck perform, and that was to clean up some of the idle haze, and be quicker off the line at the intersection once the light turned green. Lastly, with so much more air driving that AFC diaphragm down, a stout AFC spring like the one Hungry Diesel carries would assist in keeping it from over fueling at low boost.
My original intent for this modification was to not only increase the amount of air entering the AFC, but to ease getting into the AFC to do starwheel adjustments. I hated the fact that that factory boost line was a hard line, which could crack from much movement, but also the banjo bolt mess with the two seals. I'm from the school that once a seal has been compressed, it's no good tearing back into it, over and over. Plus, you drop one and lose it, your screwed. This modification gets rid of the seals, the hard copper(brass?) line, allows bucku air into the AFC, and lastly, makes minute changes to your starwheel a snap

Looks like a great mod. Im going to do this but use an adjustable boost elbow in place of one of the 90s. Hopefully it will aid in fine tuning. Good job Bigragu

Thanks a bunch, Vader- man you got those pics up way superman fast! Thanks again
I want to add, to anyone that's going to do this mod, take your time tapping for that 1/8" NPT. If you look real close at the AFC top port, there is a threaded splined insert that you will be drilling/ tapping into. Try and get in the true center of that, and do not stray off the beaten path when tapping. If you veer off and thread out the splined portion, you will have portions of the brass spline insert peel off, leaving you with a side possibly without any thread

Now would be a perfect time to plumb in a valet switch.

Bingo!
They are cheap and basically would be doing the same thing. Lowering the boost the waste gate gets, just as it would lower the boost getting to the AFC.
It sounds like it would work great in theory.

That's what I'm thinking.

Seems to me it would be way more tuneable with the bonus of not having to disassemble the thing for every adjustment.

Vader, I located an adjustable boost elbow that goes from 1/8"NPT to 1/4" push to connect made in brass, zinc coated, from Parker. Amazon. Did a search for push to connect fittings and there is an in line and a 90* elbow that come with adjustable ****. I believe they have a built in check valve also. Under $10

Sounds like you are trying to give the AFC a lower boost reading across the RPM range to limit movement. The boost controllers that I have used don't work linearly. They use a ball and spring that is preloaded against boost then open all at once at the set limit. I have used one for AFC control, but it goes from on to off quickly, not an across the board reduction.

I could not find the fitting you were referring to Bigragu. I found one flebay though. Looks very promising. It should be in the mailbox by the end of the week so I'll post some results as soon as i can.
