Advancing timing

I am wanting to advance my timing on my 92 this week. (I have one more week of vacation and not much money to spend!) so I figure now would be a good time. I have been reading alot of old threads on it. Correct me if I am wrong. I just need to loosen the bolts and bump the pump toward the engine about 1/8"? I read about needing the bent wrench to get to one bolt. Also, is there any mark where I can tell if it has already been advanced? And the 1/8'' will advance it about 16 degrees? My truck has 267k on it. See any problems with that much mileage and advancing the timing?

There should be a mark near the nut you can reach easily(just a line made by a chisel on the pump and housing). If not, make your own so you can put it back.

It seems like the trucks with the big turbine housing (your sig doesn't say you changed it) don't like more timing, it makes 'em even soggier on the bottom end.

Make sure you pull the banjo bolt out of the AFC housing, it's hard to move the pump with that attached.

Won't hurt nothin'. If you don't like it, put it back or try half.

Those Habor Freight "S" wrenches are THE tool for that bottom nut. Better (and cheaper) than the "U" wrench PDR sells.

With the auto trans it should be decent, you'll need to do it once you put in the POD's anyway.

Exclamation Timing

I put on a 16cm housing and advanced the timing to around 17* this afternoon...from completely stock, the truck is still a little boggy on the bottom but picks up somewhat quicker after 1/2 throttle. The pump on my truck was changed out to a beige industrial Cummins part, so it was already set around 16*...it feels better, but if you don't tow much i'd personally go down to the 12cm..
