93 man to auto tranny swap

I just purchased at 93 Dodge CTD w/ 5 spd man trans. I am using the engine and chassis to build my 48 Ford F-6 cab over street rod car hauler. The CTD will have to be put behind the cab and sleeper which will make it impossible to shift the manual 5 spd. Therefore I will have to use an automatic transmission. Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be the best transmission to use, and where to get one? Is there adapters available that would make it possible to use any kind of transmission, such as a GM Turbo 400, 700R4, or an old Chrysler 727, or will I just have to find a 618 from a CTD only? Please help.

You could do it... it would just have to take some good ol' fashion ingenuity and some cables!

You will still need to run some pretty funky linkeage to run the auto from that far.

One thing you will need a tranny with overdrive. Your truck has at least 3.54 gears in it and you will not be happy without overdrive.

Re:93 man to auto tranny swap

Hi Holsteinman,
Thanks for that info. I kinda suspected I needed to have the OD. but I wasn't sure. I am new to the diesel engine and need advice from fellows like yourself. I am a bodyman, not a mechanic, so this stuff is not my usual thing. If it weren't for being impossibe to shift the 5 spd from behind the cab, I would go ahead and use it.

Thanks
