Question 92 w350

I found a 92 w350 CTD good body flatbed , no rust pretty fair tires, I have bought it for 5350, this is my first diesel , I hope I have not made a huge mistake , the power is unbelevable, it cranks on first turn of key , just as well if not better than my 99 f150. Can someone tell me what I need to do to keep this thing alive for say 20 years or so. The odometer stopped at 15300,supposedly a year ago. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. From what I have seen in my area, this seemed like a good deal, I hope it was . The interior is in very good shape no tears in seat. Bythe way it is a regular cab. Thanks for all those who gave me tips as to what to look for.

15300 is pretty amazing, lol. i'm assuming it's 153000. does it have gauges? i only ask because you said the power is unbelievable, that's not ususally the first reaction to a stock 1st gen. you did just fine on price, there are some out there for less. there are definately some out there for more. as long as you are happy with the truck you paid the right price. fill in your sig so we can see everything about the truck whenever you post. welcome to the forum, TONS of great info here!

Question 92 w350 reply

I really don't know all the correct terms . You asked about gauges , it has just the stock ones , no tachometer and other stuff. I would like to put in a tachometer and do I need another temperature gauge for the transmission and how do you put in a exhaust gauge or EGT whatever it is called and why would I put in one? I am not going to try to blow this thing up, it has got to last me a lot of years. The best I know it is a 92 W350, regular cab flatbed , has an intercooler, is that good or bad? 4x4 dual rear wheels cruise control, auto matic, with o/d, what transmission do I have and how do I find out? I just seem to have so many questions, It has a gooseneck hitch , and overall seems to be a pretty sound old truck. How do You put the stuff in the signature line ?

The pyrometer will help keep you from bowing it up.

EGT is Exhaust Gas Temp- the temperature of the exhaust stream coming out of the engine. There is much debate over whether to put the probe (sensor) in the manifold or the exhaust pipe. I put mine in the pipe, due to increased accuracy.

unless you plan on doing lots of power mods or towing a lot of weight, you don't HAVE to get all those gauges, your probably safe unless your running full throttle with a load for a long time.
you want an EGT gauge so you do not over heat your engine while driving hard.

A W250 with duals? Post some pics soon! Some members here have over 1,000,000 miles. That right, 1 million! I plan on keeping the engine for that long, if not the dodge package that it is wrapped in.

Click on "User CP" (up near the top of the page all the way to the left) then click on "Edit Signature."

Sounds like you got a good truck.

Where would be the best place to get one of those EGTs and how hard is it to set up. I saw in another post somebody had gauges mounted on the "A pillar" ? I am no mechanic but I can understand some things and I really like the posts on this site. I want to put a tachometer and probably the EGT thing in the truck. As soon as i got the truckI changed the oil and filter and I plan to change the fuel filter in the next day or two. I really like how the truck looks and the ride is alot stiffer than my F150, but I like it . Can someone give me some idea of how often I should change thwe oil and fuel filters etc. There was no manual with the truck.

The intercooler is sort of a radiator for compressed intake air.

The turbo-charger sucks air in from the filter, compresses it, and blows it through the INTERCOOLER, where the dense compressed air is cooled somewhat, before it proceeds into the actual intake manifold, and from there through the intake valves into the cylinders/combustion-chambers.

The intercooler will take care of itself, so long as you don't poke a tree limb, or a set of antlers, through it.

The turbo is the SNAIL looking gizmo on the right side of the engine, hanging on the exhaust manifold.

You can follow the path from the turbo, through the intercooler, by following the smaller rubber tubing toward the radiator, into the intercooler, which is in front of the radiator, then out the left side and from there to the air intake, about centerways of the top left of the engine.

Does any of this make sense??
