92 Diesel Maintenance & Performance

Curious about opinions on maintaining my diesel.

It is the 92, 5.9L 4x4 automatic with @ 168,000 original miles. Excellent condition which I would like to keep that way.
All original with the following upgrades:
Hvy duty Transmission
Oversized exhaust
Rebuilt Rear- end

Aside from changing fluids regularly such as Oil & Filter every 3000 miles or so , does anyone have an opinion or experience in maintaining the engine for optimal performance?
Considering this is broad based question, I am interested in:
Oil type
Filter Type as in the K&N
Possible upgrade or change to stock injectors

thanks for any information

Welcome aboard. Sounds like a nice truck. Post up some pics if you can...we enjoy drooling over other peoples trucks....

As for maintenance. The regular oil and filters every..???....this is subjective and many just choose to do it on what they feel is right.

Fuel filter once a year.

I would NEVER put a K&N type/style filter on my truck. Lets too much dust/dirt and debris in....and I have the story to prove it.

Flush you brake fluid every 1 to 2 years.

Tranny and filter once every 2 years max...or 10-15K miles.

Diff and TC fluid every couple years.

Grease the suspension and drive line at least every 3 months.

Power steering fluid every couple years

A factory Service manual would probably tell you the proper time intervals to all the regular, and not so regular maintenance. Also take a look through the "Sticky" at the top of the forum. Lots of info on maintenance and upgrades there.

Thank you very much for the welcome and the advice. This is exactly the information that I was looking for.

I would tell you that my truck sits more often than not and gets a few dozen miles put on it a month , nothing more. Which is probably more reason to keep it maintained.

What type of fuel filter would you recommend? What about something like Rotella oil?

Thank you

A lot of us, myself included, use the Napa Gold brand...which is re-branded WIX filters (Some of the best filters out there). I get the fuel and oil filter in the Napa Gold.

If you wants a reliable truck, you must maintain it reliably.

Before you do injector upgrades, first determine what you want to do like towing, or performance. Also, determine your budget.

For oil, I use Rotella T6. I would use Mobil-1 but three gallons is too pricey for me.
