Question 91' dodge diesel tranny

I found a 91' dodge single cab dully, cheap! The only problem is it is and automatic and is going out, and i need 2 know what kind of tranny i need 2 buy. And i would really rather it be a standard. I need 2 know what all i need to change it over 2 a standard. I don't know a lot about this stuff. So could someone tell me what kind of auto i need, and everything i need to change it over 2 a standard? That way i can see which will be easyer and cheaper.

It could be a 3 speed auto or a 4 speed, both were available. To do a conversion?? Lots of parts, tranny, bell housing, shifter and components, clutch petal nsd components, etc, etc, etc.

The 4 speed auto is an A-518, I believe. If the scrap yard has a manual tranny, try buying the whole truck.

Assuming that is a diesel, 5.9L or 361 cubic inches.

Yeah, if it's a gasser, you're back to square one 'cause from a drivetrain standpoint, they're different animals from front to back...

BTW----WELCOME to DTR! Glad you stopped by

Anybody know How much it cost to rebuild a 518? Just a stock rebuild nothing special.

Don't matter I need both. what I was looking at doing is haveing a local shop do the tranny and then buying a gorend *sp TC. This truck is hardly over stock andits has 200K on the tranny now. I think its the TC that is bad because if I let it set for any length of time it does not like to shift into the gears when going down the road until it goes through the gears once ot twise. then when it gets into any gear it seems like the stal is higher than it use to be. it takes more rpms to hold a certin speed when going up a hill.
Its just a 2x4 reg cab truck with a empty bed but it acts like it is loaded down.

You can get a good converter for about 600-650, now a triple disc runs about 1200. A stock rebuild is not to costly, but if you start upgrading----The sky is the limit. I rebuilt my last one for around 1300. That figure included upgrades and a good single disc converter.

On the real cheap you can probably do it for 600 bucks, but you get what you pay for??

The torque converter will not be that expensive, the 1st gen trucks don't have locking TC's.
