Welcome,
I'm not sure about the gear reduction starter but yes it does have a lift pump but it is not electronic and troulblesome like you other truck. It is mounted on the driver's side of the block and is a standard mechanical pump and lasts for years. I just changed my original pump and it was not bad. Get the heavy duty moog springs from any good parts store for the front end. They still have the leveling kit at Dodge to lift the right side which saggs due to the fuel tank and some other things. Check out the stickies on turning up the pump and other mods for power and by all means install gauges first for safety. I'm sure you will find this truck a lot easier to maintain than the 98 you had. It is a simple dependable truck and a lot of fun.

The starter on these things are fine, I just rebuilt mine at 16yrs and 150k for $34. As for mods, they are endless. Start off with gauges, nice BHAF (big honking air filter, available at fleetfilter.com, airflo.com, napa), 4" exhaust, and start turning screws. Fill in you sig with things like intercooled or non, transmission you have, and any other goodies.
