91 4x4 conversion!! need all the info i can get

Hi, i am 16, and i am new here. I have a 91 dodge d250 2wd cummins. I also have a 86 k10 4 wheeling truck that i have built. 1 ton axles 9" lift 40s etc...

I can not live with a 2wd truck, and so i have decided to convert myne to a 4x4. Im not selling it, so dont even suggest it. I need all the info/parts information i can get.

Basically, i know i have the skills to do it, my cousin will also be helping me. What parts will i need? Any welding or serious fabrication required? Will i need to take out the motor to change to the 4x4 crossmember?

These are the parts i know i will need:

dana 60
4x4 power steering bracket
brake lines
shackles
t-case crossmember
engine crossmember
steering components
divorced np205.
springs

Anything else?

I can score a dana 60 for around 350-500, and i wanna do the swap for around 1500 dollars. how long should the swap take 2 guys with moderate mechanical expierience to do?

Any info is appreciated

To run the Ford Dana 60 front axle you will need to also run a Driverside drop t-case. The 1993 and down dodges and 1991 and down solid axle GMs are all Passenger side drop front axles. The dodge spring pertch width is wider than the GM and 78-79 Ford axles, not a bunch but is wider, the later ford axle pertch widths are wider then the dodge.

why not find a 4x4 frame and swap your motor and stuff over on it?

you'll need a front driveshaft, possibly a rear (?)

Why a divorced T-Case?? you'll need to cut a hole in the floor for the TCase shifter, as well as get the little light-up bezle thing for the dash if you want it.

Make sure you find springs strong enough to hold the motor up.

Seems like alot of work. Why wouldnt you just buy a 4x4 in the first place??

Try to find an axle off a diesel if you can. The bearings and inner shafts are generally heavier duty. You'll need the trans adaptor too. Make sure the bolt pattern matches your rear axle too.

Well, i am buying a complete truck this weekend. I will be picking it up on sunday. The truck is an 89 1 ton, origionally had a cummins in it. the truck has no motor in it, its got a dana 60 front, 70 rear, a 205 case. The transmission was supposedly rebuilt, but lost reverse. Its a 727. I am going to be putting my motor into this truck, as well as my cab. I will be using my tranny, and a divorced 205 case. How hard do you think this swap should be? I think i can complete it within a couple of weeks.

I did the conversion in 2 days on my 92 clubcab. I bought a 1971 dodge ex-military 1 ton p/u. I took the engine mount crossmember and the t-case crossmember. The divorced 205 t-case is the way to go. I built my own front spring mounts because I wanted a taller lift. Then I purchased the Skyjacker 6'' lift for $550 with the front springs for a CTD. I have rear blocks for now but hope to upgrade to full springs soon. i cut a hole in the floor for the shifter and screwed the shift boot from the donor truck over it. Plan to spend double what you origanaly expected to. mine coct about $2500 from start to finish.

Ok, well i am swapping my motor into a current 4x4 cummins, that does not have a cummins. I will also be swapping my cab and transmission. I dont think there should be many hidden expenses at all going this route.

Ok well, i think i am going to run a built up 727 rather than my getrag, and i was wondering if there is any difference in the 727 that came in a gas or a diesel? Also, the guy says that the 727 in it was rebuilt, but reverse blew? What could be wrong? Cheap fix ?
