We just got a vac pump and can of freon at work. Probably this winter (when I DON'T need it) I'll get my lines off and cleaned and recharge it. Probably had R12 in it yet, since the guy who was too worried about the grill to worry about the AC just broke it open and let it vent.

- Diluting the compressor's lubrication oil and wiping out the bearings,
and/or
- Slugging the compressor with liquid refrigerant or foaming lubrication oil thus breaking the reed-valves, piston(s), swash-plate, etc.

It's cool. But why overwork the compressor if you really don't need it that cold?
Instead wearing sweaters when it gets 17 degrees, why not also
turn on a separate heater so you could drive all day in SoCal shorts :-)
