Mine did the same thing last year, turned out to be the external water/fuel seperator had a couple cracks in the glass globe, and the element was dirty. I couldn't find a replacement element, so i took it out. Has run fine ever since. Just because you changed the fuel filter 5000 miles ago doesn't meen it's not dirty now. Coulda got some crappy fuel. I'd change it again and see what happens. Relatively cheap fix if it's the problem.
We just took some fuel samples from our 4 tanks at work, you'd be amazed at what you are putting into your truck. Nasty ! We change ALOT of filters. And thats after the tanks have been filtered!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I picked up a filter today and I am going to put it on in the morning. I do have a question. Where the filter mounts does anyone have a diagram of that assembly. The area where the filter gasket is is wet, not wet enough to drip, but that fuel has to be coming from some where. The last time I changed the filter it was wet too. I assumed it was just the gasket on the old filter and the problem would be fixed when I put the new filter on. After I installed the new filter last time I fired it up and watched it about 10 minutes and it was dry. Are there any O rings or gaskets that might be bad in the filter mounting Base.

Yes, filter-oring-fuel heater-oring-head. Probably the oring between the fuel heater and the head. Remove stud that filter screws onto and the heater will come off, hopefully in one piece and change the oring. Well its more of a "square" ring. haha

Ok I finally got to this. I changed the filter, better, but not the way it should be. I changed the O ring, and that brought the power back to where it should be.
