Thank so much T-man for adding those pictures!
It has been a busy few weeks around the shop.
I took 4 days off to just work in the shop with two of my friends and tackle the to do list.
The first picture shows the motor stripped down for the tappet cover gasket and LP lift pump and line install. The lift pump reads 15 PSI when we test fired the motor on the shop floor.
The next picture shows the set up I made for the test firing on the shop floor.
I made a "fuel stick" that is a electric lift pump for priming the system with a 24V filter housing with lines to the fuel jug to the motor and back to the jug. One wire and clamp for the FSS. The turbo was wide open out the exhaust housing so we all had ear plugs in.
We got 75 PSI of oil pressure during the test run. I wanted to see the motor running before installing it as I found so many missing parts, gaskets and such left from the PO.
I torched out a custom block off plate for the Vac /power steering pump out of some nice metal I had left over from a flat bed. I didn't want to run the pumps dry, even more so with a fresh PS pump.
The 3rd picture is the motor fully assembled after the test run, ready for install.
The next two pictures are of it in its new perch.
Stuff that was done to the motor before installing included:
24V harmonic balancer
'92 AC pump
'90 fan hub and pulley wheel
'92 throttle linkage
New Cummins water pump
Power steering pump
LPLP install
New tappet, intake plate and grid, oil pan and injection pump to case gaskets [there was no VE gasket when I got it]
Front and rear main seals
I also took the tamper proof bits off the fuel screw and installed a ETG probe in the exhaust manifold.
Another big thing was working on the hydro boost. We used 2nd gen style lines, using a V-10 steering pump to booster line and a '97-'02 12V booster to power steering line.
I used a 1st gen return off the steering gear
Brake lines where played with and where bleed.
The front axle was inspected to find a finger tight pinion yoke and hubs that where finger tight and missing ALL C-clips.
Wheel bearing where cleaned, inspected and had fresh grease packed in.
New 9/16ths wheel studs where installed in the front drums and tighten down properly.
We also dropped the fuel tank and inspected it to make sure it didn't still have gasoline and a gasser sending unit in it, which it did not.
I am now waiting on a South Bend Con-O clutch and one custom 2 1/2 to 3 inch intercooler boot to show up.
I have the Getrag being rebuild by a good Mopar friend.
The diesel core support is at a friend's local paint shop as I am getting it painted the color of the Gauntlet.
I had to do some welding to the lower frame support buckets, where they attach to the core support. The two brackets had cracked most of the spot welds.
I also have a few small cowl cracks to weld up before the fenders go back on.

Oli you sure did find one clean RC to start with! I have to ask when you started the motor were you worried it would lean or flip? I have started a few v8's and they idled smoothly but when I cracked the carb the motors wanted to roll a little. Did the I/6 sit pretty still?

Oli you sure did find one clean RC to start with! I have to ask when you started the motor were you worried it would lean or flip? I have started a few v8's and they idled smoothly but when I cracked the carb the motors wanted to roll a little. Did the I/6 sit pretty still?

I put some of the weight of the motor on the blue foam board and wooden crate under the oil pan, but keep most of it is still loaded on the engine stand.
The 12Vs are pretty smooth when they fire up and idle, but if you crack the throttle they want to roll.
The RC is very clean and I am glad to see it coming together finally.

Well the South Bend Clutch showed up as did the custom 2 1/2 to 3 inch intercooler boot I needed.
I tried to get in contact with Frozen Boost for over a week, calling them everyday. I NEVER got a call back even a week later.
I ordered a really nice 500* F rated [and more expensive] boot that showed up at my door within 48 HRs from Pro Formance fuel injection out of Clearfield PA. The boot is made by the company HPS and it is thicker than the stock boots.
I also just picked up the '89 core support from my buddies auto body shop. Wow he did a really nice job. It is nicer than the paint on the rest of the Ramcharger.
Not a bad happy birthday to me present.
