I think the frame is stronger where the engine mounts, it is boxed there where the Dodge isn't.

How do you go about finding one of them body style fords in a crew? Jeez..seem harder than a dodge.

80's chevy Crews are easy to find.

I think they're harder to find because they weren't military issue and I agree they are superior to the Dodge. The Ford crews don't rattle on the roof and I think are more stout that the older Dodge crews.

Terry, I still drool over your truck. I seen a few pictures of some old 70's lifted fords the other day and i have really fell in love them. I think I wanna get about a 74-79 ford reg cab hopefully with a 460 in it (so i can put the 460 motor in our old 55' Ford F250 instead of the straight six 223 motor) and drop a p-pumper or a 24 valve with a manual in the 70's ford.

This will be a someday project after i get a few more things done with the truck i have now, and when i have the money and time to do it. I like the open 78-79 grilles better though and like them with the billet grilles. So Are the grilles interchangeable then with these old fords? I saw a pic of a black one with a billet 78-79 grille with about a 6" lift and super swamper tires on it and it just looked mean as can be, I loved it! I love the look of these old fords, especially the slanted grilles and the square body. I'll maybe have ya help me out in the future if i ever get to this project, but you have a beatiful truck!

Nice truck. I always liked the 77 grill, it's sharper. I depabed abouted about mine. Keep the 79 grill or swap to a 77. I used a 99 p/s intercooler. good fit.

That's just a thing of beauty. I love everything about it, except that I haven't seen explicit step by step instructions on how to do it.

I KNOW my engine will outlast my 91 Dodge body, as I live in NJ and well...salt.

I'd love to do something like this one this body passes on...and that is my very favorite bodystyle.

alright that answers my question, so i could get a 76 or 77 and put a 78-79 grille on it? the dyno is actually next weekend, the 19th and 20th, but i think the dyno is on the 20th. Are you gonna come up? I'm pretty sure i'll do it, I just gotta get this trans fluid changed and get it set up good hopefully before i go.

Did you have to Mod the cross member under the oil pan to get it to fit? I have a 77 Crew and I am tired of feeding the 460. My measurements show that I have less than 0.5 inch clearance and still be able to shut the hood over a cummins. That does not leave much room for flexing. I am looking at a 93 doner.

Do you have the A/C compressor mounted at the stock position?

BTW nice rig. My Crew is the Copper Orange color. I have done a frame off because I let the greasy side get on top. Belief me a roll bar would be good to have. I did not have one and the cab smashed down. I was lucky that I did not wear seat belts because I would not be here today. I have not fitted a roll bar yet but I keep thinking about it. A heavy cummins would make things worse.

I have a 79 F250 with a ctd. Had to cut and replate cross member. Took out about 1 1/2". I narrowed the dodge engine mount cross member, weled plated on the ends and bolted it to my frame. That way I could the stock motor mounts.
