My year breaks may not be correct. Wondering about door fender line matching using '75 D700 fenders on an ''84 crew cab body. Have been wondering what I can do to replace a very beat/rusted cab on a D700 with a '84 crew cab that popped up for sale recently. The D700 cab seems to be a standard pickup cab. See pic. Anybody done something similar ? Want/need to change cab but keep fenders/hood/grill.
I have read the body lines on the later doors interfere with the early fenders.
Check the cab carefully - floor, mounts, tunnel, firewall. The Chevy and Ford MDT cabs had enough differences to make a simple swap with a pickup cab a bit of a headache.
Thanks for your reply. Do you recall where you read/heard about this interference ? Still have room to doubt if you are not reporting first hand experience. I do see that the D700 cab has some add on pieces where inner fenders bolt to firewall so what you say jibes with what I see. But untill cabs, regular pickup and D700 are side by side seeing every difference will be difficult. Potential interference with later doors would be a problem. Clearly a '72 - '81 4 dr cab would be the better choice to start with but not as common or as inexpensive as this later cab that fell into my lap.
I read the body line detail either here or ramchargercentral.
I own both styles of doors and fender but have not mixed and matched yet. I can see how the line on the door might grab the early fender. As far as I have read, the older doors can used with a newer cab.
I like the idea of using the early doors on the later cab. That would seem to solve the fender/door interference issue. Appreciate you hanging in there to explain and share.
You can swap, beds, doors, hoods, fenders and cabs around '72-'93 for the 1/2 to 1 tons. Yes some body lines might change but they should bolt up and work. Obviously putting different length beds and cabs on trucks will make issues with fitment.
I have heard the D700s use the same cab as the 1/2 to 1 ton trucks.
the fenders are different on the D700 with the massive flair to them.
Appreciate you chiming in oliver. The D700 cab in my pic is a regular pickup cab in every way i've thought to check. As stated in earlier post there are a few add on brackets in firewall area giving the unique inner and outer fenders additional/different mounting points compared to my 1/2 ton picckup of the same year.
