518 rebuild options.
Dunno if you guys check out the performance forum or not, I'm sure you all do, but in there I wrote about my tranny actin up and wanting to switch to a 5 spd, but with time and money at a shortage I don't know if I'll be able . I know a guy that has built ALOT of high performance mopar transmissions, I actually work for him, but he told me he's built them to handle 800+ hp in a gasser, and I know theres alot more torque with a diesel, but he said we could do it pretty cheap, and as a bonus I'd get to learn how to do it. If I do decide to let him build this thing up what are some of the valve bodies and TC you guys have had good luck with? Maybe someone makes some heavy duty clutch and band kits for this tranny? Not wanting to start a war, just looking for things to investigate myself. I thought I heard someone mention that there's a lockup conversion for the 518? That true? Thanks,
Ian

I think someone in that thread said that you can just get the rebuild kit that DTT uses to rebuild these for fairly cheap and you, or you buddy, can put the parts together. As for the TC just get a good one, not stock, and a valve body your buddy should beable to just put a shift kit in or make the mods himself.
Also, if you want a lock up TC I would just try to find a tranny out of a 94 or 95 thats not computer controlled and install that since it already has a LU TC.
