5.9 in my 1952 M37 Power Wagon
does anyone have a link to the glow grid wiring for an 89 Cummins. I put one in my 1952 Dodge power wagon with a 5 spd and all the late model suspension and drive gear. It is a slow starter when it gets below 30F at night. I never got around to hooking up the pre heater.

Hi Matt, glad you made it to the site! The early trucks use a 'black box' on the firewall to control the grids along with a temp sensor in the intake. Someone with more info will chime in shortly.

Thought you might recognize the old girl. Rolled 423k over the weekend. Still gets 21mpg and has been known to embarass the occasional import with $200 stainless steel muffler

Go to the 'user cp' at the top-left of the page and click on 'edit avatar' in the menu. You'll likely have to shrink the pic down--it only allows for a 20k or so file.

Oh, Matt, you're breakin' my heart! I used to have a '65 M37...which I sold so could afford my current '92 Dodge. I spent many evenings staring into the engine bay wondering how I could wedge a cummins in there! I finally figured it just wasn't possible...the #6 cylinder would come all the way back to the front of the seat! My dream was to put a 4bt in. Please post pics! I'll want my M37 back no doubt...I in fact wanted it back last week when we got 3 feet of snow...it was a snow eating machine with the 38" super swampers. (Need a drool icon.)

I honestly don't believe you will gain anything by hooking up the intake heaters.
My engine fires at the first lift of a piston without the heaters being hooked up, regardless of temperature.
Unlike actual glow-plugs, which are located in the combustion chambers, the grid heaters are, in my opinion, too far from the point of ignition to be of much benefit.
You can temporarily rig them up on a cold day and see if they help.
