after doing a 47rh swap on my 92 d250 would I do it again I dont think I would. MY budy with a trany shop told me that I would see 2-3 mpg more with the 47rh I still get 18-21 on the road in town I never lock the converter up so in town its 14-16. the truck tows better with the LU converter. I would say if you dont do a lot of towing and your driving is in mostly in town. stay with the 518 and put a good converter in it I put a B&D converter in the 47rh whene I put it in it is a big step up in the way it drives around town. I only used the B&D converter becoused I got it new in the box Dirt cheap IF I had to buy a converter for full price I most likely would with a Goerend or spic right Ken

I just did a 47Rh conversion.
There are 2 big pluses when I read the design changes. First, TC lockup decreases the heat load on the trans. A GEN II on the dyno did 400 hp locked up and ~300 hp without the tc locked!
Some of the aluminum components on the planetaries were upgrade to steel. Of course a builder can uses those.
THe 47 RH has twice the oil flow @ lockup which provides better cooling and longer trans life.
Cannot comment on mileage.. only driven 50 miles since conversion. Still need to work on the shift points for OD, and TC lock.
I think for the D520/350's, the crossmemeber with a GM 350TH mount is how diesel power mag converted it.
FYI- it's pretty hard to find a good used one... the cummins is hard on them. I got lucky (2nd time- first one was fried) and the junkyard found a used replacement which had been recently rebuilt.
