47rh swap

Hey guys, I was recently able to score a good deal on a 47rh that I plan on swapping into my 91 non-ic 727 w250. I understand I will need the 94+ adapter plate, starter, flex plate, and a few modification's to do the swap.

Is the adapter plate I'm in search of 47rh specific, or with the auto and manual adapter plate work?

Also, converter wise, the 47rh and 47RE converters interchangeable between the two?

I haven't completely decided yet whether I will build the current 47rh, or use it for core. Working on rather information on parts to price out for this build. This truck will remain a VE pump truck, therefore I do not need a 1000hp+ rated tranny, just something stout enough to handle the VE capabilities, at a fair price. Any input on rebuilding or core opinions ate appreciated

Any 2nd gen adapter will work, and the TQ is the same between RE and RH.

I thought the flex plate was the same though........ You ought to put a new one in anyway the way these things tweak them.

Any 2nd gen adapter plate other than some of the 6 speed adapter plates. Those get a special plate, or sometimes the standard plate with a special starter spacer and longer starter bolts.

And how about the 2nd Gen starters? Is there any difference between the auto and manual starter?

There is no difference between the auto and 5 speed starters.

And transmission wise, I haven't decided whether to use as a core, and buy like a Firepunk or ATS or just have my trans built by a shop. Transmissions are one thing I've never indulged in. The 47rh I bought is a good tranny, supposedly rebuilt even. I need a 4 speed in my truck despitely and iv been so tempted just to put it in the truck as is.

The truck will remain a VE pump set up, and I do plan on pushing the limits of the little pump, but do not plan on a P Pump conversion. I would like to go with/or have built a 47rh capable of supporting 500hp. I feel like 500hp is a safe enough rating for what I plan to do with the truck. More or less street driving/hot rodding around.

Firepunk is the only company that iv found so far that actually put's a rating on there transmissions, unlike ATS.

My biggest question I guess would be better off (price wise) buying something like a Firepunk stage 2 (Triple disc converter and biller input shafts, etc. Rated of 500hp) or takin this tranny to the shop and having then do an overhaul plus billet input shaft, and triple disc converter. Biggest thing I like about the Firepunk concept is the warranty that comes with the trans.

I would be careful about anyone who "rates" a transmission.

If it were mine, I would drop the pan and look at the debris and make a judgement as to the relative health of the trans. If it was good, I would just do a Goerend Valve Body, Converter and band strut.

That's most of the performance build anyway.

The 1st gen flex plate will work. The 2nd gen has a little more reinforcement. As to what to do with the trans, I would do the same as patdaly suggested. I don't think you need a triple disc or billet shafts. A good single disc with a billet cover should work fine. Even the stock valvebody with some Sonnax valves and a Shift Technology Products shift correction package should do the trick. I did put all billet servo's in mine though.

Simple advice,

The 47rh is a decent trans. The tc is poor from dodge. A good vb, and tc should handle your power.

Need to go new 2nd Gen of aftermarket flex disc. I would upgrade servos, band struts etc which require trans removal.

Bullet single disc. Tc, I like a slightly lower stall which works well w ve pumps.

Some of the decision is based on usage. Heavy towing it haulung.
