Whats the difference between a 47rh out of a v10 gasser and the diesel?? Could one of these be used to convert my 91 to a lock up unit eventually?? They seem hard to find and I came across a v10 unit. If my tranny needs rebuilding I cant see why I shouldnt just go with a 47RH..

The difference is the governor weights in the tail housing. Put the diesel weights in out of your trans.
What trans is in your 91? 727 or A518?
You'll also need a different bell housing adapter, starter, modify the trans mount and some other knickknack things. Read this if you haven't already, https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....html?t=114702
I've found it easier to find good complete 47RE setups, everything from the engine back to the T-case for pretty cheap. The last one I did I started out with a 47RE out of a 96 and used the front section with the addition of an aftermarket OD piston retainer with holes so the governor oil pressure tubes feed through. I took the overdrive section from an A518 and the one from the 47RE, took them completely apart and used the output shaft from the 518, used all the gears, sprag, etc... from the 47RE, rebuilt it while I was in there and put it all back together into the 518 overdrive tail housing, put that tail housing onto the 47RE front case, now its a 47RH. Put a bushing in the top hole where the connector comes through so the smaller 47RH connector will seal. Got myself a 47RH valve body from Dave Goerend and away we went.

My truck has a 518 and it is 2wd so I dont have to mess with a transfer case.. Thanks for the tip about the 47RE. What do you think about the price or this RH i found? The guy wants a grand for it plus freight to get it to me, mind you this is a V10 unit with 200k on it so it needs a rebuild.

I just paid $500 from a guy for a 47RE out of a 2001, included the bell housing adapter, flex plate, trans cooler and lines, and transfer case.
You could also convert your A518 to lockup using a lockup front pump, input shaft, torque converter and valve body.

One is in Unixcowboys truck. The other I traded for a complete getrag swap package.
Friday I pick up a G56 trans with 14K on it to complete the swap package I want for my truck.
The converter for that V10 will have a different stall speed in unlock mode. It might be to loose. Just replace with a diesel converter.

Parts for a good rebuild will run you about $1650 - 1700.
That's without the billet input and output shafts.
Labor to rebuild ~$500-650.
Triple disk lockup TC ~$1000-1300.
The rear trans mount needs to be moved to the rear about 1 1/2" or so. We carefully torched the frame into an elongated hole to fit...Someone - sometime - put the trans bolts in from the top and we couldn't get them out !!! Probably the factory 'cause I don't believe the cab is on when the engine/tranny is installed. The short driveshaft - I've got a clubcab - fit right in without any mods.
Compared to a ready built for ~$3500 it's a bargain.

i was gonna get a rebuild kit from wittrans.com that comes with blue clutches and steels, one piece band, reinforced bar, valvebody update, etc. for 550. single disc tc rated at 550hp for 675 and about 250 in labor. now thats a little discounted from what it would cost a regular joe but in my case i would've been out about 1500 and been ready for about 400 hp but i just lost interest.

What in the world are you doing for that much money. You can get the rebuild kits that the big company's use for way less then that.
IMO a stock rebuild with a good convertor and VB is going to hold up to about anything the VE can put it through.

Thats where you do some shopping around. I have had two 47Rh's in the last few years. I bought both way under that price.

I had a chance to buy a complete running 95 4x4 with a plow for 1500. I kick myself for not buying it but the money tree lost its flowers a few years ago. I wanted the tranny for my 89. Don't tell anyone but I suspect the p pump would have found its way in there too!!

The complete kit would have had billet input and output shafts and 6 gear steel planetaries instead of the 5 gear aluminum ones. Since they wanted ~ $2100 and I have to watch my pennies I pieced out everything except the in/out shafts and planetaries.
Everything else replaceable or upgradeable was. Full Alto clutches, billet intermediate shaft, 5:1 apply lever, kevlar ( I think ) bands, etc, etc, etc.
PATC builds what they call their Viper3 ---~ $3500. I bought all the parts and pieces except as noted.
Now the way the truck is waking up with the new sticks and turbo - I may have to go back in and replace the in/out shafts. I think my HP is higher than I planned.
----- I want a dyno ---- When is the next one close to me ????
