I know what you mean . By the way, not to highjack the thread, but does anyone know if theres a cummins part number for the spring? My cummins dealer will only take cummins numbers, so the bosch # didnt work.

Things are gonna get really toasty and smoky if you grind the AFC lever. Does Ohio have a diesel emissions test? If so you will not be able to pass with a ground AFC lever. You can drive the truck pretty clean if you want, but if you lay into it before the turbo is spooled you will smoke out the road.

Your mileage is still dictated by your right foot, even after the AFC grind...now being able to control your right foot is an entirely different matter, hehe. I've gotten as good as 21 mpg on a tank with the afc grind...about the same as before the grind. POD injectors are the one mod I can think of that will hurt fuel economy due to their, ahem, less than civilized nature.

What he said. If you can control yourself mileage will not change. Thing is, you have to do the job the AFC used to do - restrict the fuel at low boost. If you don't do that, you'll send gallons of diesel right out the pipe.

Yeah, you can grind off as little as you want. Obviously that will make less power, but it won't be as smoky on the bottom end.

4k bomber

Anyone out there have a 4k spring on a first gen?
I know engine stress and wear increase exponentially with RPM increase, but does 4k hurt our CTD's?
I'm pretty sure that one full throttle, speed shifting pass in my truck with a 4k spring would chernobyl the drive line! I'd be driving over pieces.
