The radiator I think holds close to 5 gallons it's big. Next time you see a FL70 look at the grill the radiator is just as big same with the intercooler. I figured 35psi would be about as safe as I want to go. The water temps never give us a problem. The head has new head bolts and the marine gasket. The cylinders still had the cross hatches in them at 130,000 miles. So what do you guys think about advancing the time a 1/8". When you advance it it helps keep the EGTs down right. Dieseldude4x4 I'm really tring to keep the smoke down as little as possible but thats pretty cool. Bob B has everthing I want to get for this truck I hope to make the power he make and keep everthing cool.

advance the timing and turn the boost up a few more psi... both will reduce EGT's

Definately move the exhaust temp probe pre turbo. You can see in upwards of a 450 degree difference in temp.

I would NOT advance the timing on this motor. You are not dealing with a pickup truck, this engine is working hard all the time. More timing is going to be rough on parts.

Hertz, you ought to read the articles by Bruce Mallinson on http://www.dieselinjection.net/ about high performance diesels for heavy trucks. We get away with a lot of shaky stuff on these pickups because we rarely work the engine hard. These articles talk about what you need to know - long term reliable power out of a hard working diesel.

I am going to differ a bit here.....
The hybrid 35 from PDR is, of course, modified a fair bit. This extends the map up a fair bit beyond the H1's and higher than a stock 35 of course.
You should stay inside the map or on the edge of it right up to 37-38psi.
These later model 1st gens seem to take higher timing and higher boost pressure fairly well too....
In my case for example I seem to have been the beneficiary of an act of god, or so I'm told by Piers....but, during some testing of a modified HX50/15 I ran some nasty numbers on the dyno...
I pegged my 1800*F guage several times, and did it running as much as 47-48psi boost. I hit a high of about 52 with that setup and the old girl hung in there.
Now, that doesn't mean someone else will get away with this too...in fact, it's outhouse luck in my case...but....
I was running timing of approx 20* advance to boot....
There is no doubt that, were my engine head to be removed there would be cracking but as it is now, she runs great.
The earlier 1st gens are a bit different. The larger injector bodies which many know were in the early trucks resulted in head cracking due to heat and not enough material around the valve seats and area..
Those engines may not fair so well if the boost, timing and/or EGT is run up like I and others have done.

Is 300RWHP do-able and reliable.....yes, if you take the steps to do it right...it's as simple as that.

pb..

like I said... give it a few more psi of boost and give it some more timing.

I have the Bully Dogs and they don't smoke much at all, so you should be ok.
I get some below 15 psi then it clears up pretty well.

Wannadiesel I'll check out that article. The guy who owned this truck before had some pretty hairy things on it. The timing was advanced I didn't know how much, He also had some off the wall injectors in it. All of the iffy stuff is out and it is getting done right. If I can make 300ish hp and 750ish ft lbs. I'll be happy with it just as long as I know I can do it. We dumped a little bit of money into it that wasn't well spent. When I get the HP and TQ I'm not going to drive it like I stole it. I just want to have it (HP) . With all the things that are in my signature below (that I have and are going to get) about how much HP and TQ do you think I will be seeing. Monty the exhaust probe will be moved when i get a ATS manifold.
