Is 300hp 1st gen motor reliable?

Behind the turbo but I already took into account and added 250'. We did post turbo because of the Murphy's Law thing. The highest I've seen it go up to on the pyro is 900'. That was WOT up a mountain for about 5 miles or more. Oh I forgot Monty the air filter is the size of my bathroom waste basket!

Look at my sig - mine is a daily driver and has been over 300 RWHP since the summer of 2003.
In addition I still run the same mileage numbers as I had at 250 RWHP.

you can't just add 250* and get a pre-turbo number... the higher the load, the larger the differential.
you're probably alright, but I'd say you're a little over the edge w/ those temps...
a bigger turbo would be nice, but your best bang for the buck to keep EGT's down would probably be a water injection setup w/ a big resovoir... should help keep things safe on those big hills

I was told add about 250* for post turbo pyro. When the turbo comes off next time I am thinking about match porting the manifold and turbo (I know a really good guy). I like the 14cm gated housing cause I can keep the boost at 30lbs max. As in bigger turbo are you talking HX40 or bigger? I went from a regular HX35 to a Piers HX35 what a difference with spool up. I am going to pull off the muffler that may help with the EGTs. I know you guys seem to like the 16cm housing but I would have to get a blow off valve to keep the boost at a sane level. Oh the head has been redone last year and we put the better head gasket on. I was talking to Bully Dog and they said there +50hp injectors add about 100-150* over stock that seems reasonable to me. Piers said I would be fine with one of there HX35 that's why I went with it. They also said NO to PODs thats why I've been sticking with the 190's. I really need to step up to 4" exhaust straight back no muffler that will keep it cooler. There are so many things I can do but my pockets are only so deep. I want to be at my goal by summertime.

Yes, 300 hp is reliable. I was right around 300hp for about 3 years with no problems. Now i'm running a tad more hp.

Keep the great info coming. A 14cm gated flows better then a 16cm non gated? I thought a 16cm would run cooler but may take a little longer to spool up. Will these motors run in the 35psi range for long periods with no problems? I figured that would be as much as I would want to run. As for a more efficent compressor I thought thats what Piers did was make if a better running more efficent unit.

yes, they'll run fine at 35psi... you've got a PDR 35, right? I think that's a little bigger compressor than a regular 35, so technically you've got a 40/35 hybrid. definately crank the boost up some.
yes, a 14 wastegated will flow better than a 16 non-gated... now, an 18.5 non-gated will flow better than a 14 gated...

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that about the housings. I've heard people in the past saying it only has a 5.9 in it and people also saying I bet you wish it had a Cat. I got it and I'm gona make this 5.9 hum along down the road. I want people to go are you sure that has only a 5.9 in it. Thanks for the info again.

I have it on from a reliable source that the 12 valvers are unreliable anyway. My sons truck only has 250,000 miles on it and it smokes really bad when you get down on it. Must be worn out I guess. Or it could be that is it turning 370 HP at the wheels maybe, not sure.

As long as you have a large enough radiator, you should be able to put out 370hp for eight hours out of ten . . . That is what the "diamond" 370 is rated at. Admittedly, it has a different cam, and coated piston crowns and skirts, but the point is that 35 psi seems to be safe for a stock head, and after that it is all about EGT and water temp. If you drive by those three guages, you will be safe, and they will tell you if you need to (or can ) make changes to your set-up.
I'm rooting for "CAT Killer" to go on the hood . . .

I don't have enough data to make a sound determination, but I would be leary of trying to run more than 35psi for an extended period without modifying the head bolts and gasket. Add slightly advanced timing to 35 lbs of manifold pressure, and you are talking about combustion chamber pressures that are out of sight . . .

ahh, I forgot we were talking about a 1st gen... I've heard they don't like as much boost as later trucks...
I've run 42psi on my truck a number of times... it's seen 45psi a few times, but I used to have it set at 42psi... ran it that way for about 25k miles. it's currently at 40psi.
granted, I don't hold it there for 10 minutes at a time, but the truck has about 243k on it, and it has NOT been babied by any stretch! LOL!
