2nd Gen Intercooler?

Just wondering if it is worth putting a 2nd gen Intercooler in 1st gens? I have all the piping and the cooler but haven't used it due to the fact of I'm only running my truck for another couple months. Figured if I need to do any mods before putting it in my project truck I'd do them now. Or, should I search for a Powerstroke cooler?

so far i understand just not enough room unless you butcher down the intercooler to fit. seen couple of powerstroke coolers installed on here. pics. and everything. i think ace has done it i bought his stock dodge one.

Well, some will tell you that the powerstroke is a better way to go and I.........will not tell you that it is or isn't............How ever, I'm all most done with my 2nt gen intercooler project!

Here is a quick view!
This is what the intercooler look like, installed
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01731.jpg

this is how big of a hole will be required.......In my wright up i will show a better looking alternative to this.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01726.jpg

Will enter just below coolant bottle
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01725.jpg

Requires a intercooled compressor housing........I used a compete HX35 off of a 95(2nt gen)
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01893.jpg

this is how the passenger side looks with 2nt gen tubes installed.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01906.jpg

This tube is not used .....becouse it don't fit...save the boots as they will be use.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01721.jpg

A 2nt one of these is used on the right side........Tim sells then for $20 each.
Just the tube(2nt gen passenger side tube)......which is the cheapest place i have found then.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01720.jpg

Tim is making a custom air horn, to finish up the tubing,(that will be available to any one doing this project in two version. polish and not!) that i will be receiving mid next week, in all off it polishedness......but here is a pic of it's mocked up stage.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01710.jpg
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01681.jpg

A much larger tube then the stock cross over tube.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01663.jpg

and the use of the 2nt gen factory intercooler mounts, also can get a better view of the hole i had to cut.
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01658.jpg

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC01656.jpg

well that give ya a real good taste of it any way.
When I'm completely finish i will do a right up on it. With a lot more details.

Also the intake air horn off of a 2nt(3d and 4th, for that matter) will not fit do to master cylinder interference and a 1st gen won't fit ether because the air heater is set further back on the non intercooler trucks.

I'd wait for the transplant before you go making any changes. A newer unit from a PS will cost about the same as a 2nd gen unit, but is a bit larger. There's some hacking to be done--might as well do it once

Just realized you are already factory intercooled.

The passenger side (2nt gen) would work,...... you can us you stock(2 1/2") air horn and pipe down to the intercooler on the drivers side.(I thing so any was).

Tim also make 3" up grade for the intercooled truck(91.5-93) that are stepping up to a P/S or 2nt gen. intercooler

Any differences in the numbers? How about "seat of the Pants"?

How big is the advantage of a Power Stroke or Gen 2 over a Banks I/C?
