285/75 on stock rim and no lift?
Just wanted to get some opinions on here. the guy at a local tire shop said that as long as i use the stock rims i should be fine to run the 285s on my stock height 91 w350. he said i would be probably only get 30K out of a 50k mile tire but that it should not rub. is anyone running this setup? also does anyone have any opinions on the american prospector A/T tire? he seems to say a lot of good things about it.

I was only able to get 245 under mine at stock hieght. If they want to sell you the tire they should mount one on the rim and install to check clearance.
My proble was the 265 would hang up on the back of the front fender.

Mines not lifted and I am running BFGoodrich AT 285/75/16's on mine.. havent ever bumped or rubbed, even going through the pastures....
Not sure why there would be a diff in these similar trucks..
could suspension stiffness/wear have something to do with it?

well i've got a d250 also and there is no was that the 285's would work without rubbing....
Chrisreyn, mine is also a 91 w350 however i have some extra weight pushing down on the springs cause of the cab and the rhino. how much space do you have to the bump stop in the front? i think that will help a lot to know if i will rub.
EDIT: also do you have the 285's on the stock rims?

Mine has a 3" body lift and I fit 35"s (315/75/16) without rubbing except at full turn, and if I didn't have stock wheels then it probably wouldn't rub at all with a little backspacing.

I run 265/85 on 16x10 wheels and I had to trim the black fender molding a little but they don't hit any now. I dont think the 285s would fit under mine. I like the wild country txr tire the best.

I can't tell you how long the 35's last on the the 6" wheels because they were on the truck when I got it and they were bald so I put a set of 235/85's on it for the time being till I get some money to get another set of them, which I hope to do soon, cause I really miss that extra 7mph on top end with 4.10's and a manual!! Come to think of it I did forget to mention that the front of my fender was trimmed a little but I don't think it was because of the tires hitting it, but more so that the fenders didn't stick down below the front "custom" bumper. And the body lift was a homemade deal by the guy who I got the truck from it is just square tubing on all the body mounts that lifts the truck body up a couple of inches, the only mods I think that were done to it so it would work was the floor was cut a little so the shifter could get to all the gears.

You can see where the fenders were trimmed in this pic and what it looks like

I have stock offset/width wheels with 285 75 16 tires and had 265's before. To get the 285s under the truck I had to pull the front springs (in pieces with a torch!) and install new front leafs with +2" arch. I still had to trim a little off of the corners of plastic wheel arch moldings but, it isn't visible from the side view. It never rubs. See my pictures.
If a guy didn't want to shave the flares the arch could probably go to +2.5". My spring shop also informed me that the front springs are the same on all 4x4 cummins trucks except for spring eye changes throughout the model years.
