Is the 21cm Housing Good for Anything?

I had originally planned my 1st mod as a turbo housing swap. But the truck's running so much better since I got the 366 spring in and the AFC oriented, I'm having a hard time convincing myself this is something I need to do.

Convince me, please!!!

Some guys with twin turbos like to experment with different size housings. But for the most part, scrap is $20 a ton right now.
The 16 is the best all around housing. If you did not have the governor spring I would say try a wastegated 12.
The 16 will spool quicker, give a little more boost and not be too restrictive on the top end.

Why not just let it go for now and do turbo research? Maybe in a while you'll see something that changes both ends out. Of course, you'll need more of something else, like air, exhaust, and on it goes.....

Don't forget to factor in the elevation where you live. A lot of the housings that run great at sea level don't spool so fast at 4K+ feet of altitude. From what I've been told a 14cm at 5k' is equal to a stock 18cm at sea level.

Expect higher than normal max EGT's at that altitude too.

My stage III cold side with a 16cm hot side won't keep 190's cool pulling my TT in the hills here. About 10k elevation. And spool isn't all that great with the 16cm, the 12cm spools great though!!

It is a good weight to test a "Punkin Chunkin" machine.

It's too light for a boat anchor. Jimmy, tboling, and Boatnik had some good suggesetions, though.

I guess what concerns me most are the EGT and elevation factors. I see that my EGT climbs to 900 just going up a gentle grade at 5,000 feet unloaded on the interstate right now. What happens when I have a 5k lb. trailer behind me going up a steep grade at 10,000 feet?

A 5k trailer is not really work for these trucks. I think you can usually control the EGT's by your right foot and a small 5k trailer shouldn't require the pedal to be floored on a steep grade. My EGT's hit 900 while climbing small hills unloaded too and with a 5k trailer they weren't really much different.

A 21 housing is good for a heavy fueled truck and small turbo such as a h1c or hx35. It will keep it from melting down, cool excellent on the top end. Allows the truck to breathe well up top, reduce egt's etc.

Maybe at lower elevations, but at 5k feet it's a different ball game.
