2 different front d-shaft u-joints?

the yoke that is original to my front axle is too small to accept the u-joint that is in the new front driveshaft that was required for my getrag swap. I am assuming that the driveshaft is/was the one that was originally with the trans i am now using, but have no way to be sure. The new rear d-shaft fit no problem.

I thought that maybe the wrong ujoint came in the new shaft, but some research at Napa revealed that there are two different ujoints for the front axle.

Can someone clarify either what i need to get, or what i need to do make everything work together?

I heard some at work mention a "cyclopsed joint"--one with two different sized "cups"

From what I understand; The front cv is a 3R; front yoke on 89-92 Diesels are a 7260 (similar to a 1310) on 93's Dodge made the front yoke bigger, a 7290 (similar to a 1330).

I can't tell you what exactly you need, but I will tell you this; don't get an adapter joint or conversion joint, get a new yoke for the front axle. That is what I did with my driveshaft upgrade. It will cost more up front, but it will be cheaper down the road and easier to get the parts as it will be a standard U joint.

looks like your driveline has a 7290, and the yoke on your pinion is for a 7260. You should be able to find a conversion u joint through one of the mopar outlets, they are pretty popular with muscle car guys.

But is it a D44 front axle or a D60?

Had that happen to me, the rear section of the shaft was OE Dodge and the front was GM, apparently a PO had the thing remanned at one time. I have since learned that it not unheard of as the Mopar yoke is harder to get.
