My dad bought a 93 brand new and I was very impressed with how it pulled and the sound of it. He wishes he had never sold that truck. It was still running around with over 200k on it. He has since had a 96 auto, a 98 5sp, a 91 gasser(he said it would be his last), a 92 auto, a 02 6sp and his current 05. I had and sold my 90 5sp. It was turned up and ran very well with over 230k. I had to change a head gasket, rebuild the rear end and rebuild the transmission, but I still wish I had kept it as a huntin buggy, but my 03 is much more pleasurable to ride in.

Well it happened on 2 different occasions for me. While at the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) we pulled up to so many Dodges with the Cummins, 12V and 24V. I rolled down the window to listen and even though I was 10 or 11 years old at the time I thought "cooool, I want a truck like that someday".
Fast forward 4 years or so and I was riding in my moms Jimmy and I noticed this kid in a 1st gen lifted about 4" and rolling on 35s with a straight pipe and a nice dark blue paint job. I heard that thing take off and I decided right then and there my 1st vehicle would be a 1st gen Dodge. Now I'm 17 years old and driving a 1st gen. Sure it may be rusty, have 328000kms on it and rides like a lumber wagon (I call it the 4x4 suspension package), but I love it, its easy to work on, gets looks (both smiles and glares haha) and it does everything a new $60k truck does.

The thread got me thinking about how I ended up with my truck. The first memory I have of a CTD dodge was when I was about 13. It was A black W350. When it pulled away it made the sound of a custom semi with all the bells and whistles(must have been a straight pipe). But nothing set in at that point. I came across truck again a few mores times along with a very similar Black W250 down the block. I turned 16 was given my first car a 1981 chevette that i had to get running before it was of any use. That car was threw a rod and was replaced with an 86 Civic that I drove the doors off of for 7 years. Memorial day of 2005 I was up in michigan and bought a little honda 90. Anyhow this guy was as much of a bike nut as me and my buddy. He said what you really need is a VW truck to go pick up bikes with. My buddy looked around and found out about the whole WVO thing and he was hooked and I was almost there. in July the Civic was totalled and I was in need of a car. There was a drought so i rode the bike for nearly a month to work while looking for a new car. Til i get the phone call. My friend found a truck. Next thing I know I was driving from Chicago to Conneticuit to pick up a VW diesel truck. Got it up and driving and drove it all over the place but quickly realized it was just too small for me. After just 2 months of having the VW truck I knew I could not live with out a truck and didn't know how I went this long without one. For some reason something deep down inside pushed me toward a first gen. I qucikly gained all info i needed on the site and started looking. I found my 93 in April and have never looked back.

I must have been 10 or 11 when a neighbor bought a new 1994 Dodge diesel. It looked cool and it had the "case tractor" motor in it, so everyone was intrigued by it. I didn't realize that you could get a Cummins in the "old ugly" Dodge pickups until several years later.
