1st Gen w/ 2nd Gen 6speed

I was thinking about swapping my trans with a second gen 6 speed. To anyone who has done it, what kind of project was it for you? I think auto are lame and I want a manual so I was thinking on going 6 speed. I know drive shafts will have to be shortened/lengthened, I have to cut a hole in my floor, remove the auto accessories, but what else is there that I might be over looking? Is there a bell housing that will hook a 12 valve to a 6 speed? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

I am sure you can make it work, but the nv4500s are generally cheaper. They also have parts that are easier to come by and there is plenty of support for the swap. The 5spd has proven to be plenty strong also.

I am not trying to push you away from your idea, just throwing things out to think about. Again completely doable. There has even been a g56 out of a 3rd gen put into a 1st gen.

i had a 12v in my 03 with 3:73 and had the 4500 in it and when that tranny went i put the 5600 in it. the motor seemed to do better with 4500 especially in the top end . bell housing and flywheel will all u need for the motor all motors use the same bell housing. you will need the whole clutch set up

Thanks guys, it looks the nv4500 route would be the best route for me. Time for some more researching!

I would go with the 3rd gen 6 speed, g56, from what i've heard they are pretty stout and hold up pretty good. That and the company that made them isn't out of business so you can get parts for them.

ive been wanting that to and hav been looking into it good i was talking to junk yeard today that deals with only drive line parts. he said 5 to 6000 dollers if its auto u hav to take everything out and start with just a stright block u need adaptor plate different starter bellhouseing cross memeber pedles all the lines to run the clutch our tcase wont fit cuz it 23 spline and 6 speed out put shaft is 29spline the drive shafts hav to be changed and one other this was a prob that the 6 speed t case drive shaft is on the right hand side ours is on the left the 6 speed bolt paterner is for a right handed t case. now i bet u can do it for less that 6000 but that got me really thinking after hearing all the little detail stuff
