1st Gen transfer case question

The cast iron transfer case they used in the early 90's trucks are bolted to the tranny. (yes, I know you knew that!) Can they be made into a stand-alone, 'divorced' style case?

You might be able to do i...but why? These are readily available and already have all the mounts cast into the cases. The married units generally do not have the mounting areas cast into the case. Plus you would also need new bearing retainers, input shaft, yoke etc. I know you have the unit now, but the costs involved, and potential mounting issues, makes this an undesirable endeavor...IMO...

Ford made plenty of divorced NPs05's over the years. These are readily available and already have all the mounts cast into the cases.

Dodge had divorced np205 transfer cases from about 1969 up to mid 70's? Front shaft would be on the same side as a 1st gen then too

So did Ford and Chevy, but I can't remember which one had the passenger side drop.

Chevy is the same as first gen Dodge, passenger side, Ford is drivers side.

Chak, Thrashingcows is right, you would come out money ahead finding one already configured as such.
