1st gen and mustang hermorphodite
I've been having thoughts lately. See i have this cummins pulled out of my truck, and i'm going through it and making it a real runner. And one of my buddies has a 92 mustang coupe without a drivetrain. And i had an idea. Putting this motor into a mustang and making it work. I'm really thinking of trying this idea. The only thing thats seems to be able to slow me down is the height of the cummins. Getting it to fit far enough down to be able to see over it is going to be a challenge.
Have any of ya'll seen a conversion of such? I've seen a 7.3 shoehorned into a mustang, but not a cummins. I'd think it'd be neat.
But mostly i'm just curious if any of ya'll know of someone putting a cummins into a sports car.

I think someone was about to do this, but it ended up that the 5.9 is too tall to make it work, unless you don't mind running around without a hood. It would take some major beefing up of the front end and some super stiff springs to make it sit level .

Due you remember the 426 hemi cuda's and challinger's?
They went like h$#ll in a straight line, more power then the stock tires could ever hold ........times that by 5 and you have some serious, pour steering vehicle!
Sound like fun tho, Hmmmmm....... boil 12" wide slick,..... with squat(light throttle)

Well I can get the car to level out pretty good i think from using some 450 lb/hr springs. And i have a tubular k member with all the goodies that come with it. Does anyone have the dimensions on a cummins engine? Height length, width, and the overall length with the 518 attached, or a 47rh?
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

man, get ready for some SERIOUS firewall modification... no intercooler, electric fan on the front of the radiator, and you MIGHT only have two cylinders inside the dash...
don't want to rain on your parade, because I'm a huge fox body fan (Fairmonts, not mustangs) and Id' LOVE to do a CTD powered 'mont, but it ain't gonna happen. that's a LONG TALL engine!

What you need to do is find a nice mid engined car to pop it in. Like maybe a kit car. How about this with a diablo body
I would think a 4bt or 6bt would be cool in a mid engined car. I have thought of it many times. I think that is the only way you could get by with the height of one. It would be cool to see how something aerodynamic would do with a cummmins for both straight line performance and economy.
