1996 Dodge Ram 2500 V-10

A nearby junkyard has one. Would it be of any benefit to swap the rear axle to my truck? I am not sure on the final drive ratio though.

It also has a failed transmission. It would be a 47RE, correct? Would I be able to make it useful?

Thanks in advance once again.

Look under the hood for the drivetrain information tag. That should tell you what gears it has. Also, if it says "HD Package" or something along those lines, it has a dana 80 in it. It should also list the rear axle on the tag. If it's a Dana 80, I would think it'd be a benefit to have a stronger axle out back. I'm sure it can take more abuse than the 70s.

I would be curious of the ratio of the rear. Also the trans will not bolt up to a diesel and the governor would be different also.

Um, I thought you could use the trans as long as you had the correct adapter plate. I understand it would need new governor weights. This trans is not operable. I was thinking of using it for a corel

This is kind of offtopic.. but can you get the 47RH adapter plate new? And if so, is it a cummins part or a dodge part?

I belive the diesel and gas transmissions have a different bolt pattern. Like a 727 from behind a diesel will not bolt up to a 318 or a 440. All the internals should be the same except the govenor and I am not sure about the valbe body that may be diesel only I cannot remember.

An automatic 2500 V-10 or Cummins should have a Dana 70.
All stick shifts and 3500's 94-02 with a V-10 or Cummins would have a Dana 80.

The advantage with a 2nd gen 70 would be a wider stance and outboard drums.

They have the drums that don't require removal of the shafts when servicing, right?

most of us know this 273,318,340,360, have the same bolt patten, big blocks 361,383,400,413,426,440, have the there own bolt patten, slant 6 has its own. and the V10 and cummins share the same bolt patten ken
