1993 battery draining

1993 d350 battery is draining, I have a #6 wire leaving the positive battery post. It then Ys into 5 wires. If this # 6 is hooked up and I scratch the negative wire to the negative post I get an arc! If I unhook the #6, I don't get an arc. Question...what do these 5 wires feed. Makes no difference pulling one fuse at a time, nor unplugging PCM , nor alternator, ac, cps, starter, solenoid! I need to be able to individually isolate these five wires. Any ideas would be greatly APPRECIATED!!1993 battery draining-image.jpg

These are from this manual. Get it at Geno's Garage.

Basically, you've isolated it to "the whole durned truck"

Disconnect the wire to the FL's, and connect a 12 volt bulb between that and the battery. It will light.

Using the above diagrams, pull fuses (under the steering column) til the light goes out. Then follow that circuit to the switch that's stuck on.

hope it helps

Thanks for the help! When I pull Fuse#15 (10amp) the arc with the neg cable on battery post is gone. So I now have it narrowed down to hood lamp (don't see hood lamp),glove box (no glove box lamp), radio electronics, map lamp (no map lamp), ign. switch lamp, dome lamp, cargo lamp and power mirrors (no power mirrors). I will attempt to narrow it down farther. thanks again!

When ever you have something that is "always on" like a clock or other electronics, you will get an arc.

Is it possible the radio is wired wrong, like the lights are on all the time?

Radio keep alive circuit should draw very little current, but a bad capacitor might up that. 'nother clue would be if it doesn't keep settings.

Hood lamp, glove box lamp, etc could have defective wiring or be hidden so you don't know it's on.

Another item is that the halo (switch) lamp used a heated timer, so it draws power after the lamp is off. It is driven by a door switch. If always on, the lamp will be always off, and the relay will be warm. (It's under the dash near the steering column)

Keep doggin' it.

The hood lamp is the extendable work light that is mounted up under the hood. Check the wire, maybe it got pinched...Mark
