Fill out your signature so that we know what it is we are talking about. Are there any modifications to the pump or motor? Injectors? There is lots of help here. In AZ they only test opacity, is that what your numbers are talking about?...Mark

If there is that much smoke at 40mph, then you sound like you have a 5spd manual in doing it in 5th. Too low for that gear.

More info on truck? At 40 they may have it in 5th.

And with the slow spooling turbo they had in 1992, that's not good for them to be in high gear at that low of speed.

The truck is a 1992 Dodge w350 LE 4x4 with a Cummins 5.9L 6 cylinders Turbo, 5 spd man. transmission. No modifications to the pump, motor, or Injectors? Yes the numbers are for opacity. I spoke with the person who did the emission test, and was told he had it in 5 gear at 40 MPH and he can not down shift during he test.

Tell him that is below manufacturers recommendation and if he wants to be on the hook for a new trans, put it in 4th.

something that helps is get the truck good and warm dont drive it just down the street to get testing gone. Put some fuel additive in the tank I would just put a full bottle in.you could also unhook the afc line Ken

I had it tested at Chase Automotive in Aurora. Also, what is the afc line?

Chase Automotive (a private garage) is trying to take advantage of you IMO. Go to an official emissions testing station run by Air Care Colorado.

Chase Automotive has some repairs they would like to have you get done?

High altitude is rough on diesels. Something sounds fishy to me. I thought Denver only did a snap test (opacity).
