1990 W250 concerns...
I'm looking at purchasing my first 1990 W250 Cummins 4x4.
A/T, 168K on the motor, Banks Intercooler, Gear Vendor Overdrive, 50HP injectors. Known issues with the truck are the A/C compressor doesn't kick on and the speedometer is out of calibration by 10-12mph. Also, a very minor fluid leak at the speedometer cable mount position. Looking for some feedback on the 1990 W250 truck set-up in general, possible fixes and costs for the A/C and more importantly experiences with the OD and thoughts to calibrate the speedo. I'm not much of a mechanic and don't want to buy a headache. That's what Tequilla is for.
Thanks in advance for your time.

This could be the problem with the AC. I don't know much about AC systems, but this is a cheap place to start:

The speedo may need a new seal to stop the leak. As for calibration, I have no idea... maybe a worn speedo cable or something? Couldn't be too tough of a fix.

Welcome to DTR! Sounds like you found a nice truck Other than general wear and tear, the older trucks are pretty much tough as nails. Auto or standard? Watch for evidence of rust over the windshield---even a spec is a red flag to run, since they rot fromt he inside out...then you'll be needing the te-kill-ya!

the info you will need is tire size gear ratio and if it has the gear reducer on it or not!

If it is an auto and has an aux cooler make sure that the cooler lines have a bypass valve. The coolers can get so cold in the winters that the freeze solid and will starve the trans for lube oil and then your trannys toast.
BTW where at in AK are you?
