1989-1991 early style Vacuum Pump HELP!!

Guys,
I don't know what to do I have a bad oil leak out of my early style vacuum pump and cant find a rebuild kit. Its different than what comes on the 2nd gen 12v and the 1991.5-93 trucks. I need a soulution to fix it. I Want to swap to the new style of pump and not worry about it. I have looked for info on the swap can someone help me out.

Very easy swap to the IC style set-up. All you need is the vacuum pump/power steering assembly, and all the brackets, and oil feed line. If you can get the big throttle bracket as well that will help, but the original one can be cut to clear the upper bracket, and then a new hole drilled for the bolt.

I think you might need the IC style power steering hoses as well...I can't remember if I replaced mine or not?

I did this on my 89 motor a couple years ago.

Where is the oil leaking from, the front of the housing, the diaphragms or between the vacuum and the power steering pump?

After you know how to take them apart all you need is a gasket, and some o-rings to stop most of the leaks, that is why I ask where it was leaking from.

The only place they can leak from is the front gasket, the 2) o-rings you see, a paper gasket under the left 3 small bolts and cover or an o-ring between the pump housing and the snout of the steering pump.

You would replace the diaphragm pods only if they were not producing vacuum and can be replaced separately.

A leaking tappet cover gasket will also drip oil onto the back side of the vacuum pump and drip down the side of the frame make and make the pump appear to be leaking.

Clean it off with Simple Green and water then check it using a mirror and light.

I'm not sure where it is coming from I just know that it is in fact the vac pump. Is it easiet to fix the leaking old pump vs go to the new style because the pump still works.

I would definitely think it would be easier, and cheaper, to fix the old unit. As Jim stated it's could only be a could things. So get some gasket material and cut your own new ones, and remove the O-rings and head down to an industrial supply house, or other, and match up the O-rings. Re-assemble and go.

I replaced mine with an IC style unit because the main shaft in the pump was rattling something fierce. And I got a heck of a deal on a complete IC style set-up.

Make yourself a block-off plate and delete it. The other pump will pull plenty of vacuum to operate the brakes and heater / a/c controls. This will hold you over until you exchange the pod style for the vein-type vacuum pump.

I deleted the lower pump on mine as mentioned and still had over 20in. Hg of vacuum. The dummy light in the message center doesn't get set off until about 8in. Hg. IIRC.
