12cm

if you like the snap with the smaller housing, focus next on cooler and tubz, another worthy upgrade step, to help spool up, and cleanup anything else you see passing the tail pipe.

hijack alert

It must be the 5 speed, I have an almost identical setup (pods, hybrid ex.) except for the mushy 518 and I can barely crack 1100F...either that or my inj pump is REAL tired.

Hey Crossy...

Before you installed it, did you find any good write-ups, or was the install pretty self explanatory?

Did you do anything about the inducer side, like install the GDS 60mm kit?

No......and don't plan on it - It's just a beater

Tested it out plenty.....my dad did a good WOT run last night , EGT's actually were lower than they used to be with the 18.5 ??? boost was 32psi, egt's were right at 1400, speed was 100+ as the speedo was pegged

3rd gear is amazing now, 4th gear going about 35mph through town is still extremely smokey when you floor it but that's to be expected as 4th gear is kinda deep for 35mph

Pretty self explanatory, i removed the whole turbo and clamped it in a vice, removed the little clamps that hold the exh. housing on....and just started beating the EDIT out of the exhaust housing all around until i was able to get a crowbar in the exhaust port and twist the housing which kinda breaks it loose, this whole time i was soaking the part where the Turbine section and the exh. housing meet with PB blaster.

Wasn't too hard.

All i had to do to the downpipe was loosen it from the bellhouse and wire it back until i got the housing on, the housing is about an inch longer than the stock one so downpipe has to move back one way or another,, it kinda pushed the tailpipe back about an inch and now points up a little at the body but oh well i'll probably loosen the tailpipe and move it so it sits level again.

The turbo is still really quiet though...hopefully it's becuase of the stock intake and stock air filter......

The HX35 is a good easy upgrade but severely limited on the air flow.

With a little more work an HE351CW or HE351VE will provide even more bang for the buck, almost instantaneous spool and +40 psi on a whim. Much better air in the mid-range where its needed.

At 110 mph plus I am passing 1,400 after turbo. I need to nut up and install the water/meth system I have. That should help.
I think a 12mm would melt my pistons by the time I hit 80.

A lot of people who haven't run a 12cm housing think a lot of things about them...

hey-Hey!!!,
On what are you basing that? The 7-blade version is mapped to 60 pounds/minute...which is a 10 lb./min increase over the 8-blade. The later ones( the 351's ) are better, and slightly more efficient, but are they that big a leap over the HX35 like the 7-blade is to the H1C?
cheers,
Douglas

YES, go onto youtube and watch all the guys who have videos. Its night and day difference on spool up time between the hx-35 and the he-351's I much rather have the spool-up time over the ability to go 100+ mph and stay below my safety temp. thats just me though...

So I'm swapping my housing as I type. Man, what a...fun endevour.

So I got the thing off, and started working on the exhaust housing bolts. 2 of them came out easily...two of them came out after a few hours of banging on them with a chisel and braking the heads off. GRR!

And of course, once I got them off...the housing won't separate from the center section.

Shoot me in the face.

Crossy...you wanna come over here and handle this action for me?
