*sigh* So I have a Jasper rebuilt A518..
Am I doomed?
I was searching the archives and read bad things about them for the first gens.
So, I asked my brother about it. When we were doing my pan a couple weeks back he mentioned that the trans looked pretty new. Turns out it is a Jasper.
Time to start saving up for a Goerend rebuilt trans I guess.

It might be. In the archived posts I dug up, people were killing them with very low miles. I will definitely be nicer to mine from now on. Not that I tear it up every where I go or anything...

I worked at a Buick dealer in quakertown pa and we put 4 jasper motors in one car withing 15k and a friend of mine owns a garage in upper buck's county pa and he put 7 automatic transmissions in 1 veh within 25k. Some guys say there good and others say there junk. I guess it just a luck of the draw whether you get a good one or not.

Well, I drove it home from Nampa, ID, which was about 600 miles. And I just got back from Billings, MT which is a 350 mile round trip. So, that's about 1,000 miles. Time for it to blow up now?

I don't even know if mine has a warranty.
Anyho, found this info on their website. I'm bored.

Jasper warrenty doesn't transfer. It is only for the orginal purchaser. But there are exceptions.
A friend of mine bought a bronco with a jasper 300/6 in it. It had 5k miles on it. It used 3 quarts of oil in a 2500 mile oil change cycle. He had all the paper work from the owner that had it installed. After a few calls to Jasper they said they would honor the warrenty even tho he was not the orginal purchaser. That was the good news. The bad news was the orginal shop had to install the replacement. That shop was 3 states away. So my friend told them to stuff it.
Now grab a drink of your choice
The worst engine I have seen from them would make anyone mad to recieve it. It was a 351 Windsor long block. This engine came out of the create with a fiberglass patch over the hole where #6 rod had came out. I opened this engine up to see what other **** they had done.
I'll start with the crank. The #2/#6 throw had been turned .030". The #3/#7 throw had been turned .020". The rest of the crank was "STD". Also the crank hadn't been shot blasted or cleaned and it had not been rebalanced.
The block. #6 and #7 cylinders had been sleaved to standard bore. The rest of the engine had been bored .030". One of the head bolt holes was striped out. There was a crack in the web between #6 & #7 cylinder.
One of the heads had a crack from the exhaust seat into the head gasket sealing area. Both heads had broken bolts in the exhaust manifold mounting holes.
I could go on but it isn't worth it.
sorry for the rant.

I put a jasper engine in for a friend who ordered it cheap (2.2 4 cyl Chrysler long block) and after transferring all the parts we started it up..... poured oil out of a crack they painted over just above the oil filter... The would not cover it and said I cracked it while putting it in the car!!! I then told them I was a A.S.E. Master tech (car & truck) , a Chrysler Master tech and I had put in hundreds of 2.2 & 2.5's and never had a problem like this.... they then told me I tightened the oil filter too tight and cracked the block Ummm ok, my buddy beat em' (broke even) in small claims court and I said no more to jasper... We rebuilt his original 225k engine like I wanted to do in the first place and all was well....
