fass system tone ??

I have noticed at idle in park after a long trip 30 plus mile that at 1/3 tank or less my fass changes tone at idle ?? it almost sounds like its pulseing is this normal or a sign that i am sucking air from somewhere ?? I dont see any fuel drips is there a preferred way to check for leaks ?? thanks, jr

The noises you might be hearing is aeration due to the low amt of fuel sloshing around and foaming the fuel. Air will build up in the water sep and when it overcomes the water sep. adapter, a pocket of that air will pass through the pump and it will sound like a "Swishing" or "Gurgling" of sorts. It is then passed through to the fuel filter where it is filter out and the air is sent back to the tank. This is normal....

I do agree, I am annoyed that FASS has basically copped out and said don't contact us, contact our dealers. That annoys me because their dealers could be selling several different performance products and the dealers don't know the product like the manufactuer does. I think FASS has copped out in this aspect.

Apparently some people have experienced cavitaiton noise with the 150 pumps due to the small i.d. factory pickup tube. There is a tube available from FASS or whatever their name is. My truck does the same thing, at times the pump will change pitch. Especially when the intake heater is cycling and the battery voltage is dropping. At lower levels in the fuel tank I guess there is a chance you could occasionally pick up air, but then I think the truck would begin to run rough.

You can test for cavitation by our 5 gallon bucket test. Pull fuel from a 5 gallon bucket (With the FASS you will need to run your return line into the bucket as well or you will empty it pretty fast.....actually you can use this to fill the bucket if needed). See if the noise is reduced. One other thing we have found is cracked pick-ups in the tank. Once fuel goes below a certain level in the tank, you will start to suck a slight amt of air. Its not so bad with the stock system or HPFP, but the FASS will exacerbate the problem due to the suction being place on the system.

The intake heaters will pull a masive load and it is normal for our pump noise to drop under the load. This is not an issue and should not affect fuel pressure.

As I understand your concern with us relying on our dealers for basic support, they have an open line to call us and get answers to your questions. And I have been known to get involved if needed. If you felt you didn’t get the correct answer to your question, im sorry. This is why I try very hard to spend my own time on these forums to help people out . BUT I don’t wish to muddy the waters in this thread with this topic as I have been down this road several times already.

I would eye thoes injectors more then our system......my Mach II's make mine lope every now and then. If your fuel pressure is rock solid.....i dont see this being an issue.
