Wish I never would have to ask this.....
hey guys,
I really wish I would never have to ask this but my cousin flipped his truck last weekend and totaled it. He is ok just tore up his arm alittle. My uncle was woundering what the motor would be worth, and or anything else if there is anything valuable on it. Its a 1996 ext cab long bed 4x4 5speed with about 130K on it, new injector pump and lift pump but completly stock besides that....

Well, I can tell you my nephew is looking for a 5 speed conversion for a 97 ext cab.........and the pricing has not been pretty.
I wouldn't be the least bit afraid to ask 2500-3000 for the engine and 2500-3000 for the rest.

I bought a complete 12 valve out of a 1994 2500 for $1500 last year, $450 for the NV4500, bell, adapter and clutch and $250 for the rear dana 80. And just a few months ago bought a complete (minus the bed)1997 3500 dually 4x4 for $2500 both have under 200K.

You guys sure wanted those trucks bad. I paid $2200 for a 94 and $850 for a 95. Both automatic 2X. They were not the best looking but no major damage.
So to answer the OP's question. It depends on how bad someone wants it. I turned down a 93 4X with a getrag for $1400 because it was passenger side drop. I would have taken it if it was 2X. Right now used car prices are up. That will change again.
