Will dual eletric fans cut it?

I know the factory fan works.....but eletric fans are the better idea if they provide the air. Will dual electrics provide enough air for pulling a grade, with 15 k lbs behind you? I don t want to spend 300$ to find out they won t on baker grade.

I don't tow but I am running dual electrics with no problems at all. As a matter of fact, I almost never need them. They only run when the A/C compressor is on to keep the high pressure side from freezing up. Temp gage cycles between 160 & 180, and never goes above 195. My fans came from two donor park avenues. You would be surprised how oversized the cooling system is if you drive around empty. The hottest it has been this year is in the low 80's and, again, no issues.

The reason that I see the high coolant temps is because of the amount of egts that I see. When I start up Questa grade out of SLO I see 1200* egts and then my coolant temp climbs. The coolant temp goes to about 205* then the fan clutch locks up and that is about as far as it goes.
Also another reason that the coolant temp goes up or could go up is because of what is infront of your radiator. There sits a intercooler that is working on hot air from the turbo.

I have been working on an idea that has been around for years and some guys have used it on their trucks. I have heard it called a desert cooler. Its just a small spray of water on either the front of the intercooler or the radiator to help cool things down. Just in the trip from our house to Pismo Beach I could use as much as 5 gallons during the summer time..

IMO they will not work when pulling in the summer and hills. I have heard some other guys here state they will not, as they had tried them, save your money or look into after market fans, there out there and are supposed to be quieter and more effecient. Goodluck,,Rick

Rick, make sure to use either very pure or distilled water on your desert cooler. I've seen guys use tap water and end up with a hard to remove calcium build up on their coolers.

I'm cheap, I just remove my fan entirely for 8 months out of the year, no problem with coolant, AT or egt temps but you have to be moving if the A/C is on.

A Horton fan is the way to go but pricey.
