white smoke/missing on rev?

white smoke/missing on rev?
I have a 98' 12 valve and here is what is modified or repaired:
1. I have a TST replica fuel plate 330 hp.
2. Just had the KDP repair earlier this year.(had to replace the case it cracked it)
When I let idle hot/cold for a minute or so and stab the throttle I get a moderate white smoke and it sounds like it is missing. Now driving under normal circumstances it is fine. What can it be?
Engine temp is good and fuel mileage seems ok.
Pours good black smoke when shifting through the gears (manual trans).

The truck in sig does the exact same thing and there are two things that could be going on. Either your timing has slipped or (if you have bigger injectors) you aren't getting enough fuel to them. My truck will blow good smoke at idle until the governor starts cutting fuel so I know that mine is not enough fuel to the injectors. But it sounds more to me like your problem lies with slipped timing...
I have an adapter to use a timing light on a diesel and could check timing for you, but I don't know where you are from. Either way there should be a local shop with the same equipment somewhere that can help you determine if your timing is too far retarded.
Good luck

One thing that I did was buy fuel from a different place than I normally do. Maybe the fuel was bad?
Before the KDP and all when it was cold I would get the usual puff of white smoke on the first rev then fine after that. It just amazes me that other than that the truck runs great. My brother just drove it tonight (he has a 2000 auto and a 04' manual) and he says it has allot of power. But one thing that was a different was it would only tack out at 3 grand while driving and when stopped in neutral it would go to 3500. Doesn't make sense to me.
Getting back to the slipped timing, when we put the gear on the injector pump it was cleaned and cleaned again with starting fluid wiped and more starting fluid and torqued to specs.
Can't seem to think that it's the injector pump due to the fast starting and how well it runs. As goes for the timing.
A mechanic also told me that maybe I have an injector problem. I don't know, just want to get input from others that know.
Also thanks for the response.
