wheels & tire combo to get RPM's down
hey guys
Just got back from my 1st trip in my 'new' 94 cummins!!! so much better than my 95 gas dodge!! Pulled my 20-24 ft landscape trailer with light furniture on it from ohio to NY (420 miles) this past weekend. Pulled it back empty, & figured I got a dismal 15 mpg on the way back. Anyone know what size fuel tank I have? I've looked lots of places & books but can't seem to find it. The truck is a reg cab 2wd with automatic. The tranny seems like it has a final highway gear or covnverter maybe? on the road, but if I get into it slightly it kicks down/ out of it into a lower gear of sorts.
Anyways, I have 3.55's & 265/75/16's on it. Was pushing 1900 RPM @ 70 mph. 72-75 mph put me at 2100 rpm, so I stayed at 70 most all the way. I would like to maybe put 315's on it, but can't find anything NON-off road in this size. I'll be doing a fair amt of highway traveling, & am looking for highway style tires & something to get my rpm's down. I would like to cruise at 70-75 for that long of a trip, but want to keep my rpm's down around 1700-1800. Any thoughts?? I may look into a lockup or triple disc converter in the future; anything simple that can help me until then?

You have a lockup convertor now, and you have a 35 Gallon tank FYI. I run 35's on my 4x4, but I think they would be too big for a 2wd truck without a lift. I'm doing 2100rpm at about 85mph, and at 80 I'm doing 1900 or so, so at 70 I'm around 1650 give or take a hundred rpm's. Where in NY are you? and fill out your signature so we can see what ya got.

with the 265's I still have about 4" or more on each side (from side to side) & about 6" above the tire before it would hit the fenderwell
