What's the difference? Diesel T/C Vs. Gas
What is the difference between the Gas and Diesel torque converters?
Seriously, a Saturday night special T/C is about $100-250 and a Diesel T/C starts @ $500.

The diesel and v-10 units are much larger with more clutch area than the v-8 and 6 units. The diesel has a much lower stall speed too.

First, a saturday night special converter is looser than stock to allow the gas motor to rev to its torque peak at the starting line. Usually is a 3000 rpm converter.
A stock diesel converter is much tighter than that and needs to be even tighter to keep the diesel in its torque range. A good range for a diesel is 1500-1800. A diesel that is modified will need a converter that is matched to the torque it is capable of making in the 1500-1800 rpm range. A converter that stalls at 1800 in my truck will, most likely be at a different rpm in yours!!!

Thanks.
I had been thinking that it had to do with the RPM's available for diesel and gas. By the time a gas is getting to it's power most diesels are hitting their limit.
Does anyone know if the vanes are different between the two? I had a local guy tell me that that has something to do with it as well.

hahaha dont mess around with converters! get one built by a reputable place. I mae tht mistake and mine will slipp away any time now... its getting worse and worse...
i was told 400 hp was the capability of this converter, and like 300 rpm lower stal speed, not true! this converter is not matched for the application....
My logic is do it right the first time! but my dad and i dont see the same way...

I just went to ATS in 2001 and got my trans done. I've got 100,000 on that rebuild and it has never missed a shift nor ever let me down. So my advice is to get a GOOD tc if you are going to get one. This is one place where you don't want to skimp on engineering.
