Whats the best way to clean a TPS
Hi I have a 1998 Ram 2500 12 valve 4x4, I was wondering what is the best way to clean a TPS and how to adjust it. Thanks

The best way is to buy a new one that's already clean. That is unless you don't mind having to come back and do it repeatedly every time you start dropping out of OD. I found cleaning to be so short lived that it's a waste of my time.

I cleaned mine and it has lasted for two years now. Do a search of the archives and you will find more info than you will care to read, some of it very good info.

All of the TPSs I've cleaned were full of dielectric grease. Seems like using the method in this article would flush it out with no means to replace it.
What I've also noticed in taking a TPS apart is that one area of the rheostat windings appear worn way more than the rest. I assume this is at the throttle position used the most, such as at highway cruising speed.
No amount cleaning is going to fix this, that's one other reason why I gave up on cleaning and just replace the unit.

I agree with infidel. Just replace it. I cleaned mine and it lasted a whole 2 days. Make sure you shop around. Most autoparts stores have them for much less than the dealer. Mine came from NAPA and had the same numbers stamped on it that the factory one had.

I have also taken these cheap dodge TPS's apart and cleaned them.....when I started cleaning them the first time it lasted well over 18 months....now I just peel off the dab of silicone covering the cleaning hole and spay in some electric contract cleaner and it good to go again.....its also alot cheaper then paying $200-$300 for a new TPS for 5 min's of my time
