The plate's purpose is not to control EGT's, but rather to control fuel quantity. But! - EGT is directly proportional to fuel quantity and air quantity. Sooo..... in a round about way, the plate actually does have a lot of control over EGT's, especially on a truck equipped with a stock turbo. There are only two ways to decrease EGT's - Less fuel or More/Cooler air.....

EGT's can still get high, even with a conservative plate. AFC position and settings are going to have a greater affect on EGT's. EGT's can get up even with lower than expected throttle input, well before a plate would start limiting the fuel (unless you have it pulled all the way back). It just seems that people make out that running no plate is some sort of voodoo and its bound to melt your engine down.

Of course there are other things that effect egt,s and of course we all need to keep an eye on our egt's. You guys that take out your fuel plate always want to make it look like theres no problem and its just like having a fuel plate. Its not and yes you can make big hp, I for one do not want to think about egt's all the time when I am pulling. I like to relax and enjoy the drive. On long up hill pulls I still watch it , just in case. Like I said there are a lot of ways to make hp you just have to pick your poison.
