It'll pull a lot more than your rated. Stopping is the bigger problem. I've run 2 heavy loads duing the truck's life. #1 - a full pallet of solid bricks. Something like 3,000+ lbs. #2 - 1.2 tons of wood pellets. Both trips were about 5 miles with a few lights and a couple of hills. Going up wasn't an issue. Going down the other side to a stop light, well... Not so easy. It stopped but took a L-O-N-G time. Adjust up the rear brakes before you go.

Weigh your truck, add your weight to that number, subtract that number from 8800# and that is your legal payload. But as has been said, these trucks will carry a lot more than that. Also pay attention to your tires.A "D" rated tire won't carry as much as an "E" rated tire.

Ive got E's and I'm going to load it and just limp it home so I dont have to take two trips. Its only like 5 miles but still, need to get the job done.

Fill your tires up to the max pressure. I just hauled a yard of pea gravel. It weighed about 2800 lbs. Here's a chart of weights of materials. http://www.reade.com/Particle_Briefings/spec_gra2.html A yd of sand is going to weigh 2700-3200 lbs depending on how wet it is.

In my 96 auto I once hauled a pallet of flagstone that likely weighed about 3600 - 3800 lbs. I just aired up the air bags and hauled it home. The truck pulled the load fine; the suspension did seem to squeak in several new places for a couple of weeks afterwards, but it went away.
